Who we are

African Centre for Women in Journalism (ACWJ), is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting excellence, diversity, equality and freedom of expression for women journalists across Africa.

We empower female journalists to produce high quality, fact-based reporting that enhances coverage, analysis and consumption of salient issues in the media, holds the powerful accountable and gives a voice to the marginalized.

Our Mission

ACWJ supports, empowers and amplifies the voices of female journalists in Africa, promoting gender equality, diversity, and inclusivity in media.

A world where female journalists have equal opportunities, access to resources and recognition to shape different narratives and drive positive change.

Our Objectives

  1. Enhance professional and personal growth of women in the practice of journalism

  2. Support women journalists' capacity building through training and mentorship programs

  3. Advocate for expanded, deepened and inclusive coverage of the diverse women experiences to inspire other women and communities in general.

  4. Foster women journalists' networking opportunities for enabling women journalists to share friendship, knowledge, tools and career advice for success at every stage of their careers.
